Maison Michel Straw Hats: Why We Love Them
As this millinery has been in business since 1936, Maison Michel has thousands of hat styles in its archives — ranging from the traditional to the dramatic. For summer, we love a fedora hat or breezy straw sunhat. In the colder months, Maison Michel wool hats are a favorite — from a nostalgic cap to a leather bucket hat.
There is good reason for Maison Michel straws hats’ international reputation: The brand continues to place the utmost emphasis on design, fit, and material. The thoughtfulness with which this millinery crafts its headwear is unparalleled — hence its presence on the streets of Paris and New York.
The Iconic Fedora
This millinery’s fedora has been a favorite since its inception thanks to its flawlessly executed design and prestigious craftsmanship. The famed Maison Michel fedora — available in thousands of styles across the decades — fits comfortably and securely on a variety of head sizes. Many of our favorites are embellished with the “M” logo.
Maison Michel Hats: From 1936 to Today
Founded in 1936 in Paris, Maison Michel was making headwear for major fashion houses by the 1970s, including Valentino and Chanel. The latter went on to acquire the millinery in 1997 through the Chanel Métiers d’Art.
Today, Maison Michel is headed by creative director Priscilla Royer, who formerly worked for Vivienne Westwood and founded her own line, Pièce d’Anarchive. Though young, Royer is already an innovative voice in fashion. Maison Michel hats continue to expand beyond their iconic straw designs and fedoras to turbans and other glamorous headwear.
